NBA Basketball Sports Gifts and Memorabilia

Basketball's beginning is the result of an idea that Luther Gulick, Jr., had when was the head of the YMCA training School. He wanted a sport, which could be played during the winter months and could be played indoors. He asked one of his instructors a Mr. Naismith to come up with something. So it was Naismith who thought up the game and a janitor who found a couple of peach baskets to serve as the hoops back in 1891. Because of the association basketball and the YMCA, the popularity of the sport spread very quickly. It became popular not only with males with the female students as well and an organized women's team started up the following year. The rest is history. Soon schools, colleges and cities had their own teams. The National Basketball League was formed in 1898 and the sport just keeps on growing in from there.

You can see basketball hoops in almost every playground and school throughout the United States, and the world. In fact you see all forms of hoops. From Madison Square Gardens to some gradeschooler with a plastic hoop over his trash can.. it seems that everybody likes to throw something into something else – it just cant’ be stopped.

Professional Basketball has its own personalities and characters. There are huge guys, there fast very coordinated guys, and there are the shooters, the rebounders and the hoop hangers. They do what they do and the fans love it. It is just amazing how these guys seem to glide through the air like something out of a Chinese kung fu movie.
